The efficiency of an abrasive is governed by a variety of factors. In addition to its physical properties (hardness, toughness, specific weight, grain size and shape), its performance is determined by the hardness of the object and the nature of the surface impurities to be cleaned.

 

The type of abrasive media acceleration (i.e. air pressure, nozzle dimensions) and the impingement angle and the projection speed also play a role. It is, therefore, practically impossible to calculate generally valid performance values. However, comparable data can be determined under identical test conditions.
